The Challenge
Although select invasive species receive national attention, thousands of invasive plants wreak havoc on our local ecosystems. Passaic County residents experience the consequences of invasives when floods strike, soil erodes, and heat strikes. In an effort to promote biodiverse ecosystems, we are restoring native plants in our local ecosystems and educating the community about this critical issue.
Our Approach
Through collaboration with the Wayne Environmental Commission, we have been granted permission to help sustain native plant life on publicly owned land. Aside from general care, we work to document native plant life and prevent further spread of highly invasive plants. Our work also extends to the classroom, where we educate others about our mission.
Our Team
We are a group of passionate people who are excited to promote sustainable thinking and connect with different parts of the community. As high school students troubled by environmental problems and lack of initiative in Passaic County, we have taken on the responsibility of restoring native life to our home.
Why Volunteer?
We care deeply about our future and our community. Nature allows us to experience awe, it engages our minds, and it makes us smile. We are looking to protect biodiversity in our hometown to preserve nature’s health and beauty.
Our Roots
Based in Wayne, NJ, both founders of Wayne Grounded are from the sub-community of Packanack Lake. The lake community has fostered a unique sense of appreciation for the natural world that Wayne Grounded embodies. Notably, we initially formed to serve as a Packanack Lake Green Team. Now, we serve all of Wayne, but we will never forget our roots.
